This person has over eight years of experience in digital video production and editing ideally within an online media environment, with demonstrated results in creating widely watched videos. They have a demonstrated experience with producing and repackaging video content with the purpose of engaging and building audiences. The will produce original video and be constantly experimenting with new video concepts and strategies. They will manage a team of editors and producers while also working closely with the EIC and state managing editors to develop and repackage video content for key audiences. This person will work closely with the audience development team to understand the video content that performs best among target audiences and adapting strategies as needed.
This position will report to the Editor in Chief.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Produce original video and experiment with new video concepts and strategies, including short form video content and franchises for social as well as longer tentpole video content
Produce original video for paid partnerships
Work closely with the editor-in-chief and state managing editors to develop and repackage video content for with diverse audiences
Recruit, hire and manage a national team of editors and producers, and build extensive freelance network across the US, and especially in target state areas
Track breaking news in each state and develop video production or repackaging ideas
Work with state managing editors to identify story ideas for video content in their region
Develop best practices and create video style and content guidelines
Work closely with analytics team to understand the video content that performs best among target audiences and adapting strategies as needed
The ideal candidate will have:
8+ years of experience in video production, news reporting, video editing or in digital political video marketing, including defining and growing a brand and voice through content.
Experience with building an engaged cross-platform audience through video content (organic and/or paid).
Experience with hiring, building, and managing a distributed team.
Familiarity with performance analytics tools such as Omniture and Google Analytics, and with the process of deriving insights therefrom.
Strong management, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders across the company.
Ability to manage time and multi-task under tight deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
Master of all aspects of video pre and post production.
Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
A passion for producing quality news and content in an authentic voice across online and mobile channels.
Familiarity with asset management and project management software
